Early Mobile Phone Designs & Features
Mobile Phones first began to be put to use in vehicles. They were used in Taxies, Long-Haul trucks, police cars and other emergency vehicles. The Phone itself was very large and box like, and had not yet been developed for easy transport, especially on-person transport. Being very inconvenient to carry, led to the phone being used only for emergency cases.
Though it wouldn't be until 1883 that mobile Phone technology would be developed for more casual use…
The phone was named First Generation Motorola Dyanatac Box 8000x created by Motorola. It was still quiet bulky, weighing in around 749g, although this was still quiet an improvement compared to the radio phone being used before. The Mobile Phone could only call, and had limited features with only an 8 hour long battery when on standby, and a 0.5 hour long battery, when calling, which is laughable when comparing to the modern battery which is now 250 hours and 8 hours if always on call.
The phone had no extra features apart from calling.
Despite all this, the phone still had 148,855 subscribers worldwide, the lead with Finland with a demand for 42,226 Phones.

Another jump in time and the world is only just beginning to realize the opportunity in Mobile Phone Technology in 1989...
This Year marked the Motoral Microtac 90800X which was the world's first "Flip Phone."
it had much the same battery life as the First Generation Motorola Dyanatac Box 8000x, but what really made the Motoral Microtac 90800X new and exciting was its new sleek design and being much lighter and easier to transport.
The Phone weighed in at 394g which was 400g lighter than the First Generation Motorola Dyanatac Box 8000x.
The mobile Phone only had a calling feature.

Only a few years after the release of the first flip phone mobile phones took yet another large step in advancement, starting what would be a series of communication technology advancements...
In 1993 the Nokia 2110, despite not being the first Mobile Phone to send a SMS (Short Message Service), was one of the first phones to stand on the fore front of the Mobiles development in the field of this particular feature.
Other changes this phone had adapted was a bit lighter weighing in at 236g, but having a significantly longer battery life that lasted up to 30 hours or 2.7 hours when calling.
Like its predecessors the phone still used buttons and a small colorless, pixelated screen.
Though, the changes seem small, the Mobile Phone was becoming increasingly popular which encouraged development from the companies, and so began the arms race of business and survival of the fitness.

Again, nearly a decade later the Mobile Phone takes another step towards advancement...
The first Phone to have the feature of in-built games was the Hagenuk MT-2000 in 1994 with the game Tetris. Although, Mobile Phone games only became widely popular with the arrival of the Nokia 5110 in 1998 who had three inbuilt games which were "Snake," "Memory," and "logic."
Snake became extremely popular quickly and helped usher in the age of Mobile Phone gaming.
With these features the Mobile Phone also had a larger battery life that could last up to 180 hours, 3.3 when calling and only weighed 170g.
On top of having the same SMS abilities as past Mobile Phones the Mobile had adapted the feature of Alarms and a built-in Clock.

In the following years the development in phones was extremely rapid as the industry became more competitive.
Only a few years after the Nokia 5110, the Motorola RAZR V3, in 2004 is a good example of the quick paced developments that had been taken place in the past six years.
Like the past phones, it still worked on buttons, but like the Motoral Microtac 90800X it was a flip phone, only this phone had a much larger screen with the clearest image yet, and was colored.
Music and videos could be played and like the Mobiles released the last decade it could play games, but now media could be downloaded, which gave way to endless possible media choice.
Another new feature was the ability to take pictures with the phone.
Alongside SMS and calling, the Mobile could send/receive emails, which shows the development of internet input starting to rear its head.
Putting the fancy new features aside the phones design and battery had improved as well with the weight of 95g and a battery life that lasted 260 hours or 7 hours when calling.

It was in 2007 that the bar of Mobile Phone perfection was set with the release from Apple
The first ever "Touch Screen" Mobile was released by Apple, dubbed the Iphone.
Known for its sleek new design and touch screen feature, the Mobile weighed more than recent mobiles with 135g but had a battery which lasted 250 hours on standby and 8 hours when calling which was an improvement in some aspects.
The graphics had improved drastically yet again, and Mobiles were beginning to be recognized to have near the same ability as some computers, despite being so much smaller.
Like the Motoral Microtac 90800X it could download games, music and now videos. As an improvement, the Iphone could access Safari an Apple web browser, hence having full internet access.
It could also take Photo's, but despite, some other phones having the development, could not take videos.
The Mobile, in the communication aspect, was more developed than any other phone, with the ability to call, SMS, Email and use of other popular social networking websites.
It had up to 16 GB of memory to store data.
